Mahindra XUV500 SUV bookings will resume from 2012 January

The last news that came in for Mahindra’s Global Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) XUV500 was back in mid October this year, when the company declared to temporarily halt the bookings of the crossover. The unusual decision was taken into account within two weeks of the Mahindra XUV500 launch, due to its tremendous response across the nation.

Now, the utility major has planned to reopen the bookings for their off-road vehicle in the month of January 2012. As per the reports it is expected that the company may increase the price of the XUV500, which saw a very aggressive price tag of INR 10.8 Lakhs for the entry level model at the time of its launch.

More than 8,000 booking orders were received by Mahindra within 10-12 days of its unveiling in India. The company’s Chakan, Pune based manufacturing plant that rolls out the XUV500 SUV, has the capacity to produce 2000 vehicles per month, but now the auto giant intends to increase the production capacity to 3,000 vehicles every month. Earlier, as the company’s production was low against the demand, hence in order to avoid unnecessary pile up and extended waiting period, which may dissatisfy the consumer, Mahindra chose to hold up the bookings.

Apart from its irresistible solid-built appearance and elegant interiors, the main attention grabbers are its class leading safety elements that includes Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), six airbags, Hill Descent Control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

The now flagship vehicle of Mahindra is packed with a meaty 2.2L Common Rail Diesel Engine, which is coupled with a 6-speed manual gear-box, has the ability to generate a peak power of 140 bhp along with peak torque of 330 Nm. Mahindra is also developing an automatic gear-box for its XUV500 and may launch the same with it in near future.
